Meet Executive Director, Charlene Lamar!
Dr. Lamar joined The Camilla Foundation in October 2022 as a board member. She has since served as the Interim Director and became the Executive Director in June 2023. While she is new to working for a nonprofit organization, her professional career spanned over 30 years, in which she served in several teaching and leadership roles in middle, high, and postsecondary education in Georgia.
No stranger to community service, Dr. Lamar participated in Dancing with the Statesboro Stars – a benefit event for Safe Haven, a shelter for battered women and children – and has worked with the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association, American Red Cross, American Diabetes Association, Habitat for Humanity, and the Boys and Girls Club of Bulloch County. She also participated in Leadership Bulloch, Leadership Southeast Georgia and the Statesboro-Bulloch Chamber of Commerce Education Committee.
Her passion is helping others realize opportunities that exist through education that is available to them. She believes that by being intentional about building supportive relationships, children and young adults can be guided through experiences or circumstances to learn how these impact their actions, behaviors and relationships. Dr. Lamar’s own education includes a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from what was then Georgia Southern College, Teacher Certification for Middle Grades, master’s degree in Higher Education Student Services, specialist degree in Educational Leadership and a doctorate in Educational Administration.
Not one to focus completely on her work-life, Dr. Lamar enjoys spending time with her family, playing with her dogs, Tippy and Pearl, traveling and connecting with the local people, fitness walks for charity, and GSU Eagles football.
